Piwik vs Google Analytics – Who is at the top?

April 29th, 2009

Piwik and Google Analytics are both good tracking software to use for your websites. Piwik is an open source software package written in PHP and uses Mysql to store data and is hosted on your own server while Google Analytics is hosted by Google and only needs a JavaScript tag to be included

Piwik Analytics data is updated instantly after a hit to show live data on your site, where Google analytics gets updated after 24hours so no live data from Google.

I find that Piwik shows more accurate data then Google, I have both tracking my one site and it’s obvious that Piwik is coming on top with the tracking. All thou Piwik is still new, it gets updated with new features often. So not much features but they are working on some great stuff and best of all it’s free as well.

Google analytics comes on top when it comes to features, I like the fact that you can see and visualize data to see the trends of your websites traffic. I prefer Piwiks live tracking. I recommend that you use both to track and see conversions.

They are both very competing in tracking and I Will stick with both. Go to Piwik to see some features

The Power of the Online Classifieds

April 15th, 2009

Most people underestimate the power of online classified ads, especially the free ones.

The power of classified ads is in affiliate marketing. You can place ads all over the world; just one ad got me 40 hops!

Now times that with a 1000 ads, it comes to 40000 hops. It’s crazy I know, but you can really make some easy bucks out of this when you promote the right products and niches.

Most common mistakes that people make in placing classified ads is duplicating ads over and over. This is classified as spam and you don’t want your accounts banned for spam at all.

The best thing to do is write about 50 different ads promoting your products that you are trying to sell.

So that’s 50 headlines, 50 descriptions, and if you have some Photoshop know how then I suggest you create a couple of images to go with that.

You will be amazed of the results you get out of this. The other benefits of classified ads are back links to your site even if people never go there. This will help in the search rankings and you will need to keep it up to benefit from this because most ads expire after a couple of days and it’s not permanent.

So start using this technique it’s not going to work if you are still reading this and not implementing this.

Here are some sites to try

craigs list

Gumtree

just search Google for more with this keyword “free classified ads”

New google canonical tag!

February 17th, 2009

Last week Google anounced the new canonical tag. The new Google tag can help you specify your preffered domain. So instead of google seeing someting like this http://yourdomain.com you can now specify with the rel=”canonical” tag by just adding it betwean the <head> tag.

So say for instance you have you have a new page in showing up in google like this htpp://yourdomain.com/your-article.html. Then you can use the new tag specify the way you want it to be picked up like this. rel=”htpp://www.yourdomain.com/your-article.html”.

You can go to the google webmasters blog to view the full article.

Marketing Your Products To The Right Audience?

January 15th, 2009

How do you promote your products? Do you even know how to promote your stuff online? Ok lets say you don’t. There are a lot of ways to promote your products online.

You can make a YouTube Video about your product and demostrate how it works, there will be a few definite customers that will buy from there if they like what they see.

You can go the classified ads route and post an ad on all the classified ads websites. You can either find all the classified ads websites in your country or you can try and find international ad directories and post your ads.

Socialize with your friends on FaceBook and recommend your products in your status updates, everyone reads your status updates. You can also put paid ads on FaceBook you have an ad budget

Go the Twitter route and just make a twitter page and promote from there.

I like Squidoo, this is one of my favourite places to promote my products or sites.

Gumtree is an international ads directory. Very usefull and you are almost guaranteed to get a response from there.

Graiglist is another one of the famous classified directories out there, but they are very strict on what you advertise.

Google adwords, if you want fast and targeted results then this is the way to go, all though this is not free i’m sure you can work out your ad budget.

Write articles about your products or news about products and promote the article on Digg. You can also use press releases telling people about your great new product.

Now all you need to do is research what people are looking for. If you don’t know what to sell or promote, then I would say start with what you like. Something like a hobby or just something your passionate about.

SEO like most of you know is a ever changing business. New techniques come and older ones go.

So today I thought I should give you just a little post on which techniques are outdated and you shouldn’t use in 2009.

So here they are;

  1. Reciprocal link exchanges is a no-no.
  2. Directory submissions is out but could still bring traffic from those sites directly.
  3. Keyword stuffing, never ever do this. It will get you banned, besides it’s not professional looking and falls into black-hat techniques.
  4. Link farms is a very poor way of getting links, never do this at all. Rather try and do 3-way link exchanges if you have more sites that relate.
  5. DMOZ directory submission. It’s not worth it and no one is letting you in no matter how hard you are knocking.
  6. .Edu and .Org domains. This will not give you better rankings and is devalued in the search so don’t waist your time.

These are just a few of many. Start of this year by setting your goals and reaching them.
